LAST LIGHT IN THE COVE, 12x16, oil
The soft, lovely Fall colors were just showing up in the trees. Lake Marburg is very low this time of the year and bright green grass is growing where water used to be. The bottom mud was a rich rust color and the late day light was low and cut through the trees.

Pa. LANDSCAPE, 16x12, oil
The Pennsylvania landscape is very green this time of year. It is hard to separate the various greens, so I try to keep in mind which areas are shady and cool and which are sunny and warm. The atmosphere makes the distant trees hazy and blue and I try to make the foreground shadows rich.

RESTING SADDLE, 16x20, pastel
I recently painted at a farm in Gettysburg and after painting the barn and some gas tanks I spied this saddle sitting on a fence. I initially did a quick 9x6 oil painting and from that painting I created this pastel painting in the studio.

THE MOTH ORCHID, 14x11, oil
The yellow-green phalaenopsis orchid resembles a moth and is often referred to as the moth orchid. I deliberately put it in a dark background scene to give it a night time feel. I received this plant last Easter from my granddaughter and I'm glad it will be in bloom for this Easter.

STEPPING STONES, 11x14, oil
The scene is a secluded picnic area at the Mary Anne Furnace Trail in Codorus State Park, Pa. I wanted to show the fast flowing creek that the path crossed to get to the picnic table. www.sharonbenner.com

SUNLIGHT AND SHADOWS, 16X20, OIL
A new oil painting based on an old pastel, plein air painting. I was standing at the beginning of a horse trail path looking for something to paint and realized the light on the path was beautiful so the subject became the light.
